Elise Burgin (born March 5, 1962 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is a former American tennis player of Jewish origin. Her highest placement in the world rankings was 27th in singles and eighth in doubles. She won one tournament in singles and ten in doubles. Her greatest successes in the Grand Slam tournaments were reaching the round of 16 at the 1982 US Open singles and reaching the semi-finals at the 1986 Wimbledon Championships doubles.

Career

Before starting her professional career, she played singles and doubles at Stanford University , from 1981 to 1984 she was traded as a member of the All-American and won the doubles championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association with Linda Gates .

In 1982 she reached the second round of the US Open , in which she lost to Bonnie Gadusek .

In 1985 and 1987 she was a member of the United States Fed Cup team , and in 1986 she was the captain of the US team in the Wightman Cup .

She won eleven titles, ten of them in doubles. In doubles, she reached eighth place in the world rankings . After ending her career in 1993, she worked as a tennis commentator. In 2003 she was inducted into the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Hall of Fame of the United States Tennis Association .
