Bettina Bunge (born June 13, 1963 in Adliswil , Switzerland ) is a former German tennis player .

The blonde, right-handed woman was born in Switzerland as the daughter of a German businessman. She grew up in Peru , where she won the national championships when she was 13. Soon after, she moved to Miami . She is fluent in English, German and Spanish. She became known to the public interested in sports primarily through her appearances in the Fed Cup . There she played in the 1980s with Claudia Kohde-Kilsch , Sylvia Hanika , Eva Pfaff , Claudia Porwik and Steffi Graf in one of the strongest German teams (her record: 27 wins in 36 games). Today Bettina Bunge works in sports marketing.

Career

Bunge played her first year as a professional in 1978. In June 1982 she achieved her best position in the individual world rankings with 6th place . In singles she won the German Open in 1982 , the tournaments in Houston and Tokyo and the 1983 WTA tournament in Oakland . In doubles she won the title in Tokyo in 1986 together with Steffi Graf and in 1987 the Belgian Open alongside Manuela Maleeva .

In the Federation Cup she played from 1980 to 1983 and again from 1985 and 1987. Her record in 23 team appearances shows 16 wins in three defeats in singles and 11: 6 wins in doubles.

Due to many injuries, Bettina Bunge was denied a very great career. In 1989 she ended her professional career.
