The 109th US Open 1989 took place from August 28 to September 10, 1989 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park in New York .
The defending champions in the individual were Mats Wilander in the men’s and Steffi Graf in the women’s. In the men's doubles these were Sergio Casal and Emilio Sánchez , in the ladies doubles Gigi Fernández and Robin White , in the mixed Jana Novotná and Jim Pugh .
In the men's singles , the German Boris Becker won against the Czechoslovak Ivan Lendl , who was in the final of this tournament for the eighth time in a row. It should be Lendl's last appearance in the final at the US Open. The ladies could Steffi Graf defend their title. The title in the men's doubles was won by John McEnroe and Mark Woodforde , the women's doubles by Hana Mandlíková and Martina Navrátilová .
