Jay Berger (born November 26, 1966 in Fort Dix , New Jersey ) is a retired American tennis player .

Career

Berger played on the ATP Tour from 1986 to 1991 . He had to end his professional career at the beginning of the 1991 season due to chronic knee damage and a botched surgery. In the world rankings he reached his highest positions with seventh place in singles on April 16, 1990 and with rank 196 in doubles on November 14, 1988. He won three titles in singles and another in doubles. In 1988 and 1990 he played a single game each for the Davis Cup team of the United States , which he won both. He was part of the US squad that won the title in the 1990 season.

In 1985 tennis magazine named Berger “Junior Player of the Year” and the Olympic Committee named him “Sportsman of the Year”. The Florida Hall of Fame accepted him in 1993. In 2001 he was inducted into the Greater Miami-Dade Hall .

He graduated from Clemson University .
