The 136th US Open was the last of four Grand Slam tournaments, the highest endowed tennis tournaments , of the 2016 season . They took place from August 29 to September 11, 2016 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park in New York , USA .

Defending champions in the singles were Novak Đoković in the men and Flavia Pennetta in the women. In the men's doubles, the French Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut won last year, in the women's doubles Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza were the defending champions. Martina Hingis and Leander Paes were the defending champions in mixed .

As a novelty there was a roof construction in the Arthur Ashe Stadium and the new Grandstand Stadium this year .

Prize money

The prize money was 46.3 million this year,  the US dollar , which meant an increase to the previous year of 10%.
