The European Open 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place in Antwerp from October 17-23, 2016 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played indoors on a hard court. In the same week were in Stockholm the If Stockholm Open , and in Moscow the Kremlin Cup played. The European Open belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Previous winners of the 1998 edition were Greg Rusedski in singles and Wayne Ferreira and Evgeni Kafelnikow in doubles .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round.

The qualification took place from October 15th to 16th, 2016. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
