The Citi Open 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place July 18-24, 2016 in Washington, DC . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week were in Gstaad , the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad in, Kitzbühel the Generali Open and Umag the Konzum Croatia Open Umag unlike the Citi Open to the category played, ATP World Tour 500 were doped to lower category ATP World Tour 250 counted. The women's tournament of the WTA Tour 2016 also took place in Washington .

The defending champions were Kei Nishikori in singles and Bob and Mike Bryan in doubles .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 48 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The 16 top seeded players each received a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 1,629,475; total financial liabilities were $ 1,877,705.

The qualification for the Citi Open 2016 took place on July 16 and 17, 2016. Six qualifiers were played in singles and a pairing in doubles, which entitle them to participate in the main field.
