Yūichi Sugita ( Japanese 杉 田 祐 一 , Sugita Yūichi ; born September 18, 1988 in Sendai , Miyagi Prefecture ) is a Japanese tennis player .

life and career

Sugita won his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour in 2010 . In front of a home crowd in Kyoto , he defeated Matthew Ebden in three sets. On the World Tour in 2012 he achieved his first respectable successes. At the Chennai Open 2012 he defeated Olivier Rochus, who was listed in 67th position, and Lu Yen-hsun . Only in the quarterfinals did he lose to Nicolás Almagro in three sets. On February 29, 2016, he broke through the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time with rank 99 . On July 1, 2017, Sugita won his first title on the ATP World Tour at the ATP tournament in Antalya . In the final he defeated the French Adrian Mannarino 6: 1 and 7: 6 (7: 4) and climbed to 44th place in the world rankings. After winning a match at the Grand Slam level for the first time , Sugita was able to reach his previous career high by one after Wimbledon Improve position.

Sugita has played for the Japanese Davis Cup team since 2007 .
