Stanislas Wawrinka defended his title in singles , but was eliminated in the quarterfinals. The biggest surprises of the tournament were the two Japanese Gō Soeda and Yūichi Sugita, who started qualifying : While Soeda reached an ATP semifinals for the first time in his career by defeating Wawrinka, the world rankings -235 failed . In the quarter-finals, Sugita only narrowly caught Nicolás Almagro , who was in second place and had to fend off three match points . This year's final contested the top seeded Janko Tipsarević and the fourth seeded Milos Raonic . In a close match without a single break, Raonic narrowly prevailed after more than three hours of play and thus won his second ATP title. He did not have to give up a single service game during the entire tournament.
In doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes were the defending champions, but this year they no longer competed together, but with new partners. While Bhupathi was eliminated in the semi-finals, Paes reached the final again together with Janko Tipsarević , where they met Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram . Although Tipsarević had only recently played the three-hour individual final, the two were able to prevail in two sets and thus win their first joint title. For Tipsarević, this was also the first ATP double title of his career, while Paes had already won 47 ATP double titles, including five in Chennai alone.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
