The Brasil Open 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place from February 13th to 19th, 2012 in São Paulo . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played indoors on a clay court. In the same week the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament was played in Rotterdam and the SAP Open in San José . The latter, like the SAP Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category , while the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category .

From 2001 to 2011 the tournament was held in Costa do Sauípe , 1,849 km away . In the individual, Nicolás Almagro defended his title and was able to successfully defend his title by beating Filippo Volandri in the final . This was his third title win at the Brasil Open after 2008 and 2011 and his eleventh ATP title overall. Last year's winners in doubles, Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares , played with new partners this year. They met in the quarterfinals and Soares and Eric Butorac were able to prevail. They then moved into the final, which they won in three sets against Michal Mertiňák and André Sá . This was their first joint title; Soares had previously won five ATP titles with other partners, Butorac had already won twelve.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
