The Estoril Open 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place from April 30th to May 6th 2012 in Oeiras . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on clay court. In the same week the Serbia Open was played in Belgrade and the BMW Open in Munich , which, like the Estoril Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

In the individual, Juan Martín del Potro went to defend his title. In the final, he defeated Richard Gasquet in two sets and was able to successfully defend his title. This was his second ATP title in 2012 and the eleventh title of his career. Previously, in the course of the tournament, two players, João Sousa and Daniel Muñoz de La Nava , had reached an ATP quarter-finals for the first time in their careers.

Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer won the doubles title last year , but this year they each played alongside new partners. While Butorac was eliminated in the first round, Rojer reached the final again together with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi , where they won against Julian Knowle and David Marrero in straight sets. This was their first joint ATP title; both had previously won five titles with other partners.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.

The qualification took place from April 28 to 29, 2012. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
