The defending champion in the singles was Janko Tipsarević , who took part in the Thailand Open this year. In this year's final, the Argentine Juan Mónaco defeated the French Julien Benneteau in a three-hour game of three. For Mónaco this was the fourth title of the season and the seventh of his career; Benneteau, on the other hand, continued his negative run at finals: the final in Kuala Lumpur was already the seventh of his career without ever stepping out of the field as a winner. In doubles, Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer were the defending champions, but they too took part in the parallel tournament in Bangkok with new partners. In this year's final Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares won against Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins ; this is the duo's first joint title and the second title of the current season.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
The qualification took place from September 22 to 24, 2012. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
