The tournament did not take place between 1996 and 2008. The last individual winner was Chilean Marcelo Ríos . This year Nikolai Dawydenko and Fernando Verdasco faced each other in the final. The top seeded Dawydenko won the final in two sets with 6: 4 and 7: 5. After the victories in Hamburg and Umag , this was his third tournament victory this year as well as his 17th career title. In doubles, John McEnroe and Mark Philippoussis won the last edition. This year the Polish pairing Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski won against Igor Kunizyn and Jaroslav Levinský in straight sets 6: 2 and 6: 1. For the Polish duo it was the second joint title this year and the tenth joint title in their career.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each received a bye in the first round. The total prize pool was $ 850,000 and total financial liabilities were $ 947,750.
The qualification took place from September 26th to 28th, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who moved into the main draw via qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. Prize money for the double competition applies per team.
