Last year's individual winner, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga , was eliminated in the quarter-finals this year. In this year's final, the Serbian Novak Đoković won in three sets with 6: 2, 5: 7, 7: 6about Gaël Monfils . For Đoković this was the first triumph in Paris, but already the fifth Masters title of his career. Overall, it was the 16th tournament title in the Serb's career. For Monfils, this was the first time he ever entered the finals in a Masters tournament. Jonas Björkman and Kevin Ullyett won the doubles title last year, but this year they did not defend their title together. While Björkman did not participate this year, Ullyett and his new partner Bruno Soares were eliminated in the round of 16. In this year's final Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić won against the unseeded duo Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo 6: 3, 6: 4.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 48 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The 16 top seeded players in singles and the eight top seeded pairings in doubles each received a bye into the second round. The total prize money was 2,227,500 euros; the total financial liabilities were 2,750,000 euros.
The qualification took place from November 6th to 7th, 2009. Six qualifying places that entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament were played out.
