The SA Tennis Open 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place from February 2nd to 8th, 2009 in Johannesburg . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the Movistar Open was played in Viña del Mar and the PBZ Zagreb Indoors in Zagreb , which, like the Movistar Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

The last winner of the tournament was Martin Sinner , who had secured the 1995 title against Guillaume Raoux . The tournament did not take place between 1996 and 2008. In doubles, the last winners were Rodolphe Gilbert and Guillaume Raoux, who prevailed in the final against Martin Sinner and Joost Winnink . Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the 2009 final in two sets against his compatriot Jérémy Chardy 6: 4 and 7: 6 5 . This was Tsonga's third title on the pro tour. In doubles, the duo James Cerretani and Dick Norman won against local heroes Rik De Voest and his partner Ashley Fisher in three sets with 6: 7, 7 , 6: 2, [14:12].

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. Total financial debt was $ 500,000.

The qualification took place from January 31 to February 2, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
