The LA Tennis Open 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 27th to August 2nd, 2009 in Los Angeles . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week were in Umag , the ATP Studena Croatia Open and in Gstaad , the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad played, like the LA Tennis Open at just the category ATP World Tour 250 counted.

Last year's winner in the individual was Juan Martín del Potro , who did not take part in the tournament this year. In the final, local hero Sam Querrey defeated qualifier Carsten Ball in three sets 6: 4, 3: 6 and 6: 1. For Querrey it was the first tournament victory of the current year and the second ATP tournament victory of his career. In doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Eric Butorac were the defending champions, only Butorac took part in the tournament again and was eliminated in the first round. In this year's final, the brothers Bob and Mike Bryan and the German duo Benjamin Becker and Frank Moser faced each other. The Bryan brothers won the final in straight sets 6: 4, 7: 6 2 and secured their fifth victory in Los Angeles after winning the title in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007. For the two of them it is already the fifth double title and the 54th joint title in their careers this year.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize money was $ 550,000; total financial liabilities were $ 630,500.

The qualification took place from July 25-27, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
