He played his first professional season in 2006, winning the three Challenger tournaments in Yuba City , Winnetka and Lubbock .
In 2007 he moved into the third round of the Australian Open , in which he was defeated by Tommy Robredo in four sets. Querrey also reached the semifinals at the ATP tournament in Indianapolis , where he set the record of ten aces in a row when he beat James Blake . In addition, he made it to the quarter-finals at the masters tournament in Cincinnati .
In 2008 Querrey made it to the third round at the Australian Open and reached the semifinals at the ATP tournament in Delray Beach . In March, he achieved his first ATP tournament success at the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas against the South African Kevin Anderson . In July 2009 he reached the final in Indianapolis , where he was defeated by his compatriot Robby Ginepri . The following tournament in Los Angeles he won against the Australian Carsten Ball 6: 4, 3: 6 and 6: 1. After this success, Querrey moved up to 26th place in the tennis world rankings, his best placement to date.
In February 2010 he won his third title on the ATP World Tour in Memphis . In the final he defeated his compatriot John Isner in three sets with 6: 7 3 , 7: 6 5 and 6: 3. Surprisingly, he also won the tournament in doubles together with his opponent in the single final, John Isner. The season was still very successful for Querrey: in April he reached the final in Houston , where he failed against the Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela ; in May he was able to win his first clay court tournament in Belgrade ; in the final he defeated his compatriot John Isner 3: 6, 7: 6, 4 , 6: 4 - as in Memphis . Querrey won the third title of the season in June at the tournament at London's Queen's Club , which was also his first title on grass. Here, too, he was able to prevail in a purely American final, this time against Mardy Fish , whom he defeated 7: 6, 3 and 7: 5. In Wimbledon Querrey reached the round of 16, where he had to admit defeat to British Andy Murray in three sets. But just a month later he was able to return the favor and defeat the top seeded Brit in the final of the tournament in Los Angeles ; this title defense from the previous year was Querrey's fourth title of the season. At the US Open he was the last American to be eliminated in the round of 16, the Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka defeated him in a very tight and hard-fought five-set game. After that, he couldn't find his form and won only one of six matches by the end of the season. Nevertheless, 2010 was Querrey's most successful year of his career, he finished the season at position 18 with a record high and with four titles won, Querrey was the third most successful player on the ATP Tour after Rafael Nadal (seven titles) and Roger Federer (five titles) .
The bad trend from the end of the season continued at the beginning of the 2011 season: in Sydney , Melbourne and San José he suffered opening defeats against players who are much worse placed in the world rankings. In Memphis he reached the quarter-finals, but lost important points as the defending champion. This series of first and second round defeats continued - with the exception of the tournament in Indian Wells , in which Querrey reached the last sixteen - into the clay court season. In doubles, the season was more satisfactory: in Houston Querrey reached the final together with John Isner , but where they failed because of the Bryan brothers . At the Masters tournament in Rome , the two even won the title without a fight. The final against Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick could not be played because of a shoulder injury by Roddick. Already at the tournament in London's Queen's Club , where he was eliminated as defending champion in the round of 16 against James Ward , he noticed problems in his arms and underwent elbow surgery. This operation forced him to cancel all summer tournaments; Querrey did not start playing tennis again until mid-September, but only at the Challenger level - he reached the finals in two tournaments in this category, but failed both times to Ivo Karlović . This long break was also noticeable in the ranking: while he was still in the top 30 in June, he was at position 120 in October. In November he played again at the ATP level in Valencia for the first time and even reached the quarter-finals there after he previously defeated the top 10 player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga . Thanks to the points he gained, he was able to finish the season in 93rd place in the top 100.
In the 2012 season, Querrey gradually found his way back into shape. At the beginning of the season Querrey rarely made it past the second round, but was able to celebrate his first successes again from spring and early summer: in Houston he won the tournament alongside James Blake; in London's Queen's Club , he has long since reached the semifinals of an ATP tournament. After a third round loss to Marin Čilić at Wimbledon , his form improved noticeably during the American hard court season. In Los Angeles he was able to celebrate a tournament victory for the first time in two years, his third in Los Angeles; in Washington, DC he reached the semi-finals, at the Masters tournament in Toronto the second round. Thanks to these successes, Querrey was able to move back into the top 30 after more than a year. After the US Open , where he failed in the third round, he achieved the biggest success of the season at the Masters tournament in Paris : he surprisingly beat world number two Novak Đoković and advanced to the quarter-finals, where he failed against local hero Michaël Llodra . He finished the season in 22nd place, back in the top 30 after two years.
