Juan Ignacio Chela (born August 30, 1979 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine tennis player and current coach.

Career

Chela won six ATP tournaments in his career: 2000 in Mexico City , 2002 in Amersfoort , 2004 in Estoril , 2007 in Acapulco , 2010 Bucharest and Houston . He celebrated all these tournament victories on clay. In doubles he was able to win a total of three tournaments and also reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2010 .

His most successful appearances at Grand Slam tournaments were reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2004 and 2011 , as well as the US Open in 2007 . His best individual ranking was number 15 on August 9, 2004.

In 2000 Juan Ignacio Chela had tested positive for the doping agent methyltestosterone , which is why he was banned for three months in 2001 and downgraded in the world rankings. However, the then 21-year-old stated that he had taken the drug unknowingly.

On December 3, 2012, he announced the end of his career.

Chela will coach Diego Schwartzman in 2019 .
