Methyltestosterone is a synthetically produced drug from the group of anabolic steroids ( xenoandrogen ) and is a derivative ( derivative ) of the physiologically occurring sex hormone testosterone .
The 17 α - alkylated steroid is one of the first orally ingestible steroids and, like oxymetholone and metandienone, has a strong anabolic and androgenic effect. After ingestion, it is able to convert into 17-methyl estradiol , the rate of aromatization being around 13-16 times as high as that of testosterone. 17-methylestradiol has a particularly strong estrogenic effect.
The side effects worth mentioning include: hair loss , severe acne , severe stress on the liver , severe weight gain (usually 90% of this is water and fat). Longer use increases the risk of gynecomastia . Another serious side effect is the strong effect on the psyche (depression, nervousness, mood swings, changes in libido, increased aggressiveness and violence).
Medically, methyltestosterone in injectable form is indicated for the treatment of underactive gonads in men ( hypogonadism ), but is no longer of great medical importance due to severe side effects.
Abuse in Sports
Methyltestosterone is considered a doping agent and is used particularly by boxers, strength athletes and wrestlers. The effect sets in quickly.
