The 2016 Memphis Open is a tennis tournament that took place in Memphis from February 8-14, 2016 . The tennis tournament was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was held indoors on a hard court. The same week the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament was played in Rotterdam and the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires . The former belongs to the ATP World Tour 500 category , while the tournaments in Memphis and Buenos Aires belong to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Last year's winner Kei Nishikori defended his title and won his fourth title in a row in Memphis. Only Novak Đoković , Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have four wins at a tournament in a row . In the final he defeated the 18-year-old local hero Taylor Harry Fritz in two sets with 6: 4, 6: 4. Fritz made his first place in the final in his third ATP tournament; for comparison: Đoković needed 24 tournaments for this. Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Santiago González defended their title in doubles . After they had to fend off three match points in a 28-point match tie-break in the semifinals, the Pole and the Mexican prevailed 6: 4, 6: 4 against Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey in the final . They won their 18th or eleventh title in doubles.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize pool was $ 618,030; total financial liabilities were $ 693,425.
