Henri Joona Julius Laaksonen (born March 31, 1992 in Lohja , Finland ) is a Swiss - Finnish tennis player .

Junior period

Laaksonen started playing tennis when he was three. At the age of 16 he won the U-16 European Championship in Moscow . In 2009, at the age of 17, he reached the semi-finals in the singles of the Junior French Open, where he was defeated by the Swede Daniel Berta in two sets.

Career

At the beginning of November 2012, Henri Laaksonen reached a semi-final at an ATP Challenger tournament in Geneva for the second time after Tampere . This success earned him 35 world ranking points, which was his highest score to date. On the ATP World Tour he has already been in a main field several times, mostly thanks to a wildcard at the Swiss ATP tournaments in Gstaad or Basel . In Casablanca he reached the peloton via qualification in 2013 and reached the round of 16 for the first time, a success that he repeated in Båstad in July .

Laaksonen won his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour in November 2015 at the tournament in Champaign (Illinois), which he won for the second time the following year.

Despite a first round defeat against Lukáš Rosol , Laaksonen achieved his highest world ranking to date in July 2017 after his first Grand Slam appearance at Wimbledon with 100th place.

Davis Cup

In 2009 he was called up by Finland for a Davis Cup match. In the game against Monaco , Laaksonen won his game against Clément Morel in five sets. In 2012 he was called up for the first time by the Swiss Davis Cup team . In the relegation game against the Netherlands , however, he was ultimately not used. In the first round game of the Davis Cup 2013 Laaksonen lost his first game against Tomáš Berdych from the defending champion Czech Republic in four sets.

In September 2016, Laaksonen made a decisive contribution to keeping the Swiss team in the world group by winning one of his two singles and the doubles alongside Adrien Bossel .
