Davis Cup 2013

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 2013 the Davis Cup was held for the 102nd time. A total of 130 nations took part, 16 teams played in the world group for the title.

In the first round match between the teams from Switzerland and the Czech Republic on Saturday, February 2, 2013, a historic match between Stanislas Wawrinka / Marco Chiudinelli and Tomáš Berdych / Lukáš Rosol took place . When the Czech doubles turned the 12th match point into 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 7 3 , 24:22, a total of 7 hours and 2 minutes had been played. The game went down in tennis history as the longest Davis Cup match and the second longest match ever after the historic match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010 .

The Czech Republic managed to successfully defend its title. In the final they defeated Serbia 3-2. Although both Tomáš Berdych and Radek Štěpánek lost in their singles to Novak Đoković , with their respective victories against Dušan Lajović and the joint success over Nenad Zimonjić and Ilija Bozoljac , they secured their team the third overall title win in the Davis Cup.
