Davis Cup 2014

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 2014 the Davis Cup was held for the 103rd time. A total of 121 nations took part, 16 teams played in the world group for the title.

Tunisia was excluded from participation by the International Tennis Federation after the Tunisian Malek Jaziri failed to play against the Israeli Amir Weintraub in a challenger tournament under pressure from his national association .

Due to the uncertain situation in Israel and Ukraine , the relegation games to the world group that were to take place in these two countries have been postponed by the ITF. The game between Israel and Argentina took place in Sunrise , Florida , in the United States . The meeting between Ukraine and Belgium took place in Tallinn , Estonia .

For the first time won the Switzerland Davis Cup. In the final, the team led by Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka defeated hosts France 3-1. After Wawrinka's opening win against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils equalized against Federer for France. The double game decided Federer and Wawrinka against Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau for Switzerland, before Federer secured the early 3-1 victory with a win in the third single game against Gasquet.
