The Apia International Sydney 2016 was a tennis tournament , which from 11 to 17 January 2016 in Sydney took place. It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the ASB Classic was played in Auckland , which, like the Apia International Sydney, was part of the ATP World Tour 250 category . In addition, a women's competition was played at the same time in Sydney .

Last year's individual winner was Viktor Troicki . In doubles, the duo Rohan Bopanna and Daniel Nestor won the tournament last year.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round.

qualification

The qualification took place on January 9th and 10th, 2016. Four qualifying places were played that entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
