Henri Kontinen (born June 19, 1990 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish tennis player . He specializes in doubles competitions and has topped the world doubles rankings several times .
Career
Henri Kontinen, whose brother Micke is also a professional tennis player, mainly plays on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Future Tour . In 2008 he won the junior title of the French Open alongside Christopher Rungkat and in the same year reached the junior final at the US Open with this partner . Also in singles he reached the junior final at Wimbledon in 2008 , in which he was defeated by Grigor Dimitrov .
So far, Kontinen has won five single and ten double titles on the Future Tour. On May 3, 2010 he was in the top 250 of the ATP world rankings for the first time ; his best position was 220th place (October 2010).
On the Challenger Tour, he won the Loughborough doubles tournament in 2010 . In 2013 tournament victories in Tampere , Bratislava and Helsinki followed . In the following year, four more Challenger titles were added before Kontinen was able to secure his first ATP title in Kitzbühel alongside Jarkko Nieminen in August 2014 . In the first half of 2015 he won three more ATP titles with his new partner Marin Draganja from Croatia. Two tournament wins with Treat Huey followed by the end of the season . The following season he won seven titles, five of them with John Peers . In the world rankings he reached the top ten for the first time on November 7, 2016. At the ATP World Tour Finals , for which he had qualified for the first time, he and Peers won all games and with them the tournament. At the beginning of 2017, the two celebrated their first Grand Slam title in doubles by winning the Australian Open . On April 3rd, Kontinen became the first Finn and 50th player to take the lead in the world double ranking .
Kontinen has been playing for the Finnish Davis Cup team since 2008 , for which he played 15 games; he has to show a single balance of 6: 4 and a double balance of 10: 5.
