qualification
The eight best placed players of the current season of the ATP Tour qualified for this competition. There were also two reservists. If one or two Grand Slam tournament winners had finished between 8th and 20th place on the ATP World Tour, they would have received the eighth starting place and the first reservist place.
1 Stan Wawrinka ended the season prematurely in August due to a knee injury.
2 Juan Martín del Potro gave up his reserve position.
3 Novak Đoković had ended the season prematurely in late July due to an elbow injury.
4th Andy Murray had stated in early September that the season was "very likely" over due to a hip injury.

qualification
The eight top-placed doubles pairs on the ATP Tour qualified for this competition. However, a team that won a Grand Slam tournament and secured a place in the top 20 of the world rankings at the end of the year would also have qualified. Due to this regulation, Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus were already qualified early on October 13, but were ultimately among the eight most successful teams of the season anyway.
