The seven and eight best-placed players on the ATP Tour in the course of the season qualified for the finals . There were also two reservists. If one or two Grand Slam tournament winners finished between 9th and 20th place in the season's ranking, they were given eighth starting place and first reservist place. This season this rule was not applied.
The first reserve player was David Ferrer, the second was Feliciano López, who is actually in 16th place.
