Juan Sebastián Cabal (born April 25, 1986 in Cali ) is a Colombian tennis player .
Career
Juan Sebastián Cabal achieved his best results so far, especially in doubles. At the side of his compatriot Robert Farah , he won a total of six titles in challenger tournaments in 2011, twice as many as in the previous year. In 2008 he won three challenger tournaments together with Alejandro Falla . His sporting highlight was reaching the finals at the French Open in men's doubles. Together with Eduardo Schwank , he had already eliminated the world's best doubles at the time, the US twins Mike and Bob Bryan, in the semifinals . In the final, however, they lost to Daniel Nestor and Max Mirny in three sets with 6: 7 3 , 6: 3 and 4: 6. At Wimbledon , Cabal competed again with his regular partner Farah and at least made it to the round of 16. In the first round, which was only played for two instead of the usual three winning sets due to bad weather conditions, they defeated Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi , who were seeded in 4th position, in a marathon match lasting over three hours with 21:19 in the third Sentence. He and Farah achieved the best result when they reached the quarter-finals at the 2013 Australian Open . He and Farah achieved their first title wins on the World Tour in the 2014 season . They won in Rio de Janeiro and Winston-Salem , and they were also in four other finals. He reached another final in 2014 with Nicolás Barrientos .
In 2018 Cabal and Farah were in the final of the Australian Open and in the semifinals of the US Open . They finished the year together in fifth place in the world rankings. On July 13, 2019, the two of them secured their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and, with the victory, took over the top of the world rankings on July 15.
Juan Sebastián Cabal has been playing for the Colombian Davis Cup team since 2008 .
