Yuki Bhambri ( Hindi : यूकी भांबरी, born July 4, 1992 in New Delhi ) is an Indian tennis player and winner of the Australian Open 2009 in the junior competition.

Career

In 2008, as a junior, Bhambri made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open , where he lost to local hero Bernard Tomic in three sets. In the same year he won the Junior Davis Cup and the Orange Bowl , one of the most important tournaments for young talent. In 2009 he finally succeeded at the Australian Open , where he clearly won the final against Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas from Germany 6: 3, 6: 1 in just 57 minutes. At the Olympic Summer Games for Juniors 2010 , Bhambri also won the silver medal for his country, in the final he had to give up against Juan Sebastián Gómez at 7: 6, 6: 7, 1: 4 due to injury. As a junior, the Indian reached the first world ranking position on February 2, 2009 .

On the ATP World Tour , Bhambri made his debut at the Masters tournament in Miami 2009, where he failed in round one to Diego Junqueira . The following April he won the first two tournaments on the ITF Future Tour in his home country, and three more titles followed in India over the course of the year. On September 18, 2009, Bhambri made his Davis Cup debut against Izak van der Merwe , whom he defeated 3: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4. At the beginning of 2010 he tried his hand at the qualifying tournaments of various ATP competitions, but it was not enough for a place in the main field. At the tournament in Kuala Lumpur Bhambri was qualified for the main draw and defeated Si Yew-Ming 6: 2, 6: 0 in the first round , but had to admit defeat to David Ferrer 2: 6, 2: 6 in round two .

In March 2011, Bhambri won another Future tournament in his home country.
