Izak van der Merwe (born January 26, 1984 in Johannesburg ) is a former South African tennis player .

Career

Van der Merwe won three singles titles on the Challenger Tour , as well as 14 other doubles titles. On the ATP Tour , he achieved his best result in 2011 at the SA Tennis Open , when he was equipped with a wildcard and was able to advance to the semifinals and only there was defeated by the Indian Somdev Devvarman . At Grand Slams he was only able to qualify for the main draw at Wimbledon , in 2008 in singles and in 2011 in doubles. He did not succeed in a subsequent victory.

Van der Merwe had been a member of the South African Davis Cup team since 2006 .
