Richard Bloomfield (born April 27, 1983 in Norwich ) is a British tennis player from England .

Career

Bloomfield started playing tennis when he was eight. In his time as a junior he took part in three Grand Slam tournaments and in 2001 achieved his best ranking in the junior world rankings with rank 52.

In 2002 Bloomfield began playing regularly as a professional. This year he won one title each in singles and doubles on the third-rate ITF Future Tour and was among the world's best 1000 players in the world rankings . In the following years up to 2007 he was able to gradually increase his position individually. The year 2004 he finished in the top 400, in 2006 he was at the end of the year with 205th place on the best place he could achieve at the end of the season in his career. In March 2007 he was at his career high with number 176. In his time up to 2008 he won an individual future title - two titles each in 2006 and 2008. After cracking the top 300 in 2005, he played increasingly on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour , where he reached the semifinals in Tarzana and Southampton . He was also able to play his first tournaments on the ATP World Tour , often using wild cards . In 2003 , 2004 , 2006 and 2007 he was in the main field of the individual competition at Wimbledon. Only his first round match against Carlos Berlocq in 2006 he was able to make it victorious. In addition, he received some wild cards at the tournaments in Eastbourne and Nottingham . Shortly before reaching his single record, he was in the final of the Challenger in Wrexham for the first time in 2007 . Although he again reached a Challenger final in Manchester the following year , he lost a few places in the ranking and fell out of the top 300 at the beginning of 2009. He had to start again mainly in futures and otherwise laboriously through the qualification.

He celebrated his greatest success in the summer of 2010, when, after successfully qualifying for the World Tour event in Newport, he prevailed against players placed well above him and made it to the semifinals. There he was defeated by the local hero and eventual winner Mardy Fish . Although Bloomfield made a leap in the world rankings as a result, he was unable to build on this success and until 2015 had to go to his last tournament, the qualification of Wimbledon , mainly in lower-class tournaments. In 2011 and 2012 he won his last Future titles. In doubles, Bloomfield won six futures and reached four Challenger finals without winning any of them. In 2007 he won his only two matches in his second of three Grand Slam appearances and reached the second round with Jonathan Marray . A little later in April 2008, he also achieved his career record there with 172nd place.
