Robert Farah (born January 20, 1987 in Montreal , Canada ) is a Colombian tennis player .
Career
Robert Farah achieved his greatest successes especially in doubles. Together with his compatriot Juan Sebastián Cabal , he won a total of six titles on the Challenger Tour 2011 , twice as many as in the previous year. At the level of the ATP World Tour , the move into the round of 16 at Wimbledon was his first good result in Grand Slam tournaments. They defeated in the first round, which was only played for two instead of the usual three winning sets due to bad weather conditions 4th placed Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in a three-hour marathon match with 21:19 in the third set. He and Cabal achieved the best result when they reached the quarter-finals at the 2013 Australian Open . He and Cabal achieved their first title wins on the World Tour in the 2014 season . They won in Rio de Janeiro and Winston-Salem , and they were also in four other finals.
In singles, he has already won a tournament at Challenger level, in 2010 in Bogotá. He was also in the final of the Challenger tournament in Aguascalientes , but lost there against Cabal. Farah won gold in both singles and doubles with Cabal at the 2011 Pan American Games .
In 2018 Farah and Cabal were in the final of the Australian Open and in the semifinals of the US Open . They finished the year together in fifth place in the world rankings. On July 13, 2019, the two of them secured their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and, with the victory, took over the top of the world rankings on July 15.
Robert Farah has been playing for the Colombian Davis Cup team since 2010 .
In January 2020, the world tennis association ITF announced that Farah was provisionally excluded from playing on the tour due to a positive doping test for the anabolic steroid boldenone in October 2019. Farah pointed out that the substance was used in Colombia for raising cattle and that he had ingested it through meat consumption. On February 10, the ITF lifted the provisional suspension with immediate effect.
