The Argentina Open 2016 was a tennis tournament of the ATP World Tour 2016 in Buenos Aires , which was played outdoors on clay from February 8-14, 2016. In the same week the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament was played in Rotterdam and the Memphis Open in Memphis . The former belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category , while the tournaments in Buenos Aires and Memphis belong to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Defending champion was Rafael Nadal in the singles, who could not convert a match point in the semifinals against Dominic Thiem and was eliminated. Thiem won the final against Nicolás Almagro in three sets with 7: 6 2 , 3: 6, 7: 6 and thus won his fourth individual title in his fifth final. Almagro broke a 15-game losing streak to David Ferrer en route to the final to reach his 22nd final on the tour. Last year, Jarkko Nieminen and André Sá won doubles, but they didn't start this time. The final decided the top seeded Juan Sebastián Cabal and  Robert Farah from Colombia against Íñigo Cervantes  and Paolo Lorenzi 6: 3, 6: 0 for themselves.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize pool was $ 523,470; total financial liabilities were $ 598,865.
