The German Tennis Championships 2016 were a tennis tournament that took place from July 11th to July 17th, 2016 in Hamburg . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on a clay court. In the same week the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships were played in Newport and the SkiStar Swedish Open in Båstad . However, in contrast to the German Open German Tennis Championships, which belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category, these only belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

The defending champions were Rafael Nadal in singles and Jamie Murray and John Peers in doubles.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 1,388,830 euros; the financial obligations amounted to 1,514,495 euros.

qualification

The qualification took place on July 10th and 11th, 2016. Four qualifying places were played out in singles and one in doubles, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser in doubles.
