In the same year he could not win any matches at Challenger tournaments, but he climbed to 523rd place in the world rankings. At the end of the year he was able to win the German tennis championships in Offenburg by defeating Kevin Deden .

2010: First future title and first challenger final

The year 2010 began for Cedrik-Marcel Stebe with a first round victory over the top 200 player Michał Przysiężny at the Challenger tournament in Heilbronn . In April 2010, Stebe was able to win his first future title in Padua and consequently moved into the top 500 in the world rankings. In July 2010 he achieved the greatest success of his career up to then: At the Challenger tournament in Oberstaufen , he made it to the semifinals as a qualifier, including victories over the top 200 players Lukáš Rosol and Pablo Andújar . There he prevailed against the top-seeded top 100 player Simon Greul in two tight sets and thus stood in his first Challenger final. There he was defeated by Martin Fischer , but was then able to achieve his best world ranking so far with rank 322. Three weeks later, Stebe only narrowly failed in the last qualifying round at the ATP tournament in Umag . Then he had to due to various injuries u. a. take a longer tournament break on the back.

2011: Grand Slam debut, Challenger title and entry into the Top 100

In February 2011, Stebe got back into the tournament scene and immediately began a winning streak of 17 matches in a row on the Future Tour. First he won two consecutive tournaments in Antalya and only gave a single set. He then qualified at the Challenger tournament in Kyoto for the main round and marched there through victories over defending champion Yūichi Sugita and the top seeded Gō Soeda to the final, where he lost in three sets against his compatriot Dominik Meffert . A week later, Stebe managed to take revenge against Meffert in the quarter-finals at the Challenger tournament in Guangzhou after a second round win over Lukáš Lacko, who was in second place . After that he was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual tournament winner Uladsimir Ihnazik , but still rose by over 100 places in the world rankings to 234th place due to the latest successes. In the following weeks Stebe reached another semifinal in Pingguo and a quarterfinal in Rome . In May Cedrik-Marcel Stebe then competed for the first time in the qualification for a Grand Slam tournament at the French Open , losing to Simon Greul in the second qualifying round. In June 2011, Stebe qualified for an ATP tournament for the first time in Halle . It took him almost four hours in the decisive qualifying game against Leonardo Mayer before he could prevail in three sets. In the first main round, Stebe then lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber , but was the only player to take a set from the eventual tournament winner. Two weeks later he qualified for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at Wimbledon . The last qualifying match against Ryan Harrison lasted a total of three days due to numerous interruptions in rain until Stebe was finally able to win in five sets. In the first main round he was eliminated in three sets against Grigor Dimitrov . After he failed in the semifinals of the later winner Daniel Brands at the Challenger tournament in Oberstaufen in July 2011 , Cedrik-Marcel Stebe received a wildcard for the ATP tournament in Stuttgart . There he was the only German to reach the second round with a three-set victory over Nikolai Dawydenko, who was in 6th position . After another narrow victory over the top 50 player Fabio Fognini , Stebe then stood in an ATP quarter-finals for the first time. There he lost quite clearly against the eventual finalist Pablo Andújar . A week later, Stebe also received a wild card for the ATP tournament in Hamburg . In the first round he prevailed there in two sets against ex-world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero , who had won the title in Stuttgart two days earlier. In the second round, Stebe met Dawydenko for the second time within eight days, whom he defeated again. In the second round, however, he was eliminated from eight seeded later semi-finalists Fernando Verdasco . At the end of August 2011, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe failed at the US Open in the first qualifying round. However, he immediately traveled to Bangkok , where he won his first Challenger title with a final victory over Amir Weintraub . Just a week later, Stebe reached another Challenger final in Shanghai . There he won in three sets over Alexander Kudrjawzew and thus won his second title. At the next tournament in Ningbo , Stebe's winning streak ended after 13 matches when he had to retire in the semi-finals due to a wrist injury. Because of these successes, he moved into the top 100 in the world for the first time at the end of October 2011. He also qualified as one of eight players for the 2011 ATP Challenger Tour Finals , which were held in São Paulo in November . There he moved into the semi-finals with two wins in the preliminary round, which he just managed to win against Andreas Beck . In the final, Stebe then beat Dudi Sela in two sets , against whom he had previously lost in the preliminary round. With this success, he finished the year in 81st place.

2012: Davis Cup debut

Due to his placement, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe was directly qualified for the Australian Open . There he met local hero and former world number one Lleyton Hewitt in the first round in the sold out Rod Laver Arena . This won the first two sets, but lost the third set. In the fourth set, Stebe already led with a double break, but then lost the last six games in a row and thus the match. In February 2012, Stebe was appointed to the squad of the German Davis Cup team for the first time due to the absence of Philipp Kohlschreiber due to illness . After the German team was already 3-0 down against Argentina after the first two days, Stebe was allowed to play against Eduardo Schwank in the insignificant last single , against whom he won the honor point in two sets. In the relegation game against Australia , Stebe was again in the squad. Stebe lost his first individual against Bernard Tomic 1: 3 before he met Lleyton Hewitt in the decisive fourth individual. In contrast to the Australian Open, however, Stebe was the better player after initially falling behind and secured relegation for Germany with his clear 3-0 win over Hewitt.

2013–2016: 30 months lost due to injury

From October 2013 to March 2016, Stebe could not play tennis for most of the time. During this time he had several injuries, including an injured hip flexor, lumbar spine problems, pubic bone inflammation, a stress fracture and had to undergo groin surgery. Then he managed to return to the top 75th in the world.

2017–2018: Comeback and another injury-related setback

At the end of 2016, Stebe returned to the tournament on a regular basis and was able to reach an ATP quarter-finals for the first time in Geneva in May 2017 . Through Challengers, he quickly played his way up the ranking again. First he was in the semifinals in Caltanissetta , later he reached the finals in Poprad-Tatry , Marburg and Vancouver , where he was twice victorious. At the US Open he fought his way through the qualification and also won in round 1 against Nicolás Kicker before he failed to Damir Džumhur . He was in the top 100 for the second time since 2011. With his third Challenger win of the year in Sibiu , he was able to move up to 78th place and was about to hit a new career high.

However, an operation on the wrist at the end of 2017 threw Stebe back again. He only played two tournaments in 2018, both of which he lost in the first round. In the middle of the year he had a second operation on his right wrist.

2019: Injury-free and first ATP final

In 2019, Stebe started in April with some participations with his Protected Ranking and early defeats in first-round games in Marrakech against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and in the Grand Slams in Paris against Karen Chatschanow in Wimbledon against Reilly Opelka . In July in Gstaad , he first won the first ATP match of the year in the first round against Corentin Moutet . After his victory against Jiří Veselý , he defeated the Italian Thomas Fabbiano in a postponed quarter-final game in three sets on one day and then the Portuguese João Sousa in the afternoon . The next day Stebe was defeated in his first final at this level to the Spaniard Albert Ramos . After the tournament, Stebe was ranked 257 in the world and passed the $ 1 million mark in prize money.

Career as a club player

Cedrik-Marcel Stebe played in the 2nd tennis Bundesliga for TV Reutlingen in 2009 and 2010 . For the 2011 season he then moved to the two-time German champion TK Kurhaus Aachen . There he played both for the Oberliga team, which took second place in the final table, and for the Bundesliga team. With this he was able to win all of his four individual games and thus played his part in making the team German champions in 2011.
