The tennis club Kurhaus Bad Aachen 1890/1932 eV (short: TK Kurhaus Aachen ) is a pure tennis club in Aachen , which was founded as a lawn tennis club by local cloth manufacturers in 1890 and is therefore one of the oldest of its kind in Germany. Today's club complex is located in Aachen's city garden in the immediate vicinity of the Carolus Thermen , the New Kurhaus and the Quellenhof Hotel. The men's team in the tennis Bundesliga and the other teams in the club play their home games on six places .
history
In the first decades, the members of the Lawn tennis club had to be content with a small sports facility in Aachen's Reumontstraße and it was not until 1924 that they received permission from the Aachen city council to use the newly built tennis courts in the city garden as a public facility. Since only 20 to 25 players did not form a club, but only a tennis community, it was also not possible to be admitted to team tournaments. As a result, 36 tennis enthusiasts founded the tennis club Kurhaus Bad Aachen 1932 eV in 1932 and received a long-term lease from the city of Aachen to use the tennis facility in the city garden until 2000. Four years later, the Lawn Tennis Club , which had existed up to that point, was dissolved and all members joined in the TK Kurhaus. This justifies the inclusion of the year 1890 in the name of the association. In the next few years the tennis facility was enlarged so that international tournaments could take place in front of up to 800 spectators.
During the Second World War the sporting activity was idle and it was not until 1953 that an international match with 11 nations took place again. The best-known athletes who played in Aachen during these years were, among others, Henner Henkel , Gottfried von Cramm and Fred Perry . The clubhouse was rebuilt between 1968 and 1971 and, as a result of the tennis boom of that time, an air dome was installed on two courts for the winter period in the 1980s. After Boris Becker and Steffi Graf's careers ended, interest in tennis also declined in Aachen and the club shrank to less than 200 members. Nevertheless, with the support of sponsors, the club was able to continuously develop and stabilize at around 390 members, and a men's team was also registered for the Bundesliga. In addition to this Bundesliga team, TK Kurhaus competes with one women and two other men’s teams as well as with the age groups girls, juniors, boys, juniors, women 30 and men 30 and 40 in different leagues.

In 2003 he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. In 2004 TK reached the semi-finals, in 2005 it was German runner-up and in 2008 German team champion. In the 2009 season , the championship title was defended. After a fourth place in 2010, the championship title was celebrated in 2011 and 2012 as well as again in 2013 . In 2014 and 2015 , TK Kurhaus Aachen won the runner-up and came in 4th in 2016 and 3rd in 2017 . In the 2018 tennis season , relegation could only be maintained on the last match day.
