Pablo Gabriel Cuevas (born January 1, 1986 in Concordia , Argentina ) is a Uruguayan tennis player .
Career
The older brother of tennis player Martín Cuevas took part with the Uruguayan team in the 2002 South American Games in Brazil . In 2003 Pablo Cuevas won his first tournament in Uruguay, and in 2004 he turned pro. In 2005 he won his first title at a future tournament in Argentina , and a little later he was victorious in a future tournament in Venezuela . He won his first double title in 2006 at a smaller tournament in Montauban and he collected more wins at smaller tournaments. Cuevas made his first appearance at a Grand Slam tournament on August 27, 2007 at the US Open , but was eliminated in the first round against Andy Murray (2: 6, 3: 6 and 0: 6).
The greatest success of his career so far in singles was his first tournament victory on the 2014 World Tour in Båstad . Another title followed in Umag . In the 2015 season he celebrated his third title win in São Paulo , which pushed him up to 23rd place in the world rankings; He achieved his best ranking to date in August 2016 with position 19.
In doubles he had his greatest success so far against the Peruvian Luis Horna . With him he won the French Open in 2008 when they defeated Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić in two sets (6: 2 and 6: 3) in the final. In addition, Cuevas reached the finals in Houston that same year . In 2009 he had two more successes in doubles, in 2010 he won his fourth double title. At Challenger tournaments, Cuevas has so far recorded a total of eleven single and 15 double titles.
In 2010 he played in the tennis Bundesliga with the then reigning German champions TK Kurhaus Lambertz Aachen . He was also registered in 2011 , but did not play a game that year.
Pablo Cuevas has been playing for the Uruguayan Davis Cup team since 2004 . In his first year as a professional he made his debut against Haiti; since then he has played a total of 40 games in the Davis Cup , in which he celebrated 30 wins (20: 6 wins in singles).
Awards
As part of the honors of the best Uruguayan athletes from 2009 to 2010 ("Deportista del Año"), he was named the best athlete of 2009 and best athlete of 2010 in the Teatro Solís by the Comité Olímpico Uruguayo on March 28, 2011 in the “Tennis” division.
