The Kuala Lumpur ATP tournament (officially Malaysian Open , previously Proton Malaysian Open , 1993–1995: Kuala Lumpur Open ) was a Malaysian indoor tennis tournament . The competition was first held in 1993 as a replacement for the Singapore men's tournament , initially on carpeting, and then discontinued in 1995. From 2009 to 2015 the event was held again, now on hard court, and held in the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex in Kuala Lumpur . The game was played with a 28 field in singles and 16 in doubles. The tournament was part of the ATP World Tour 250 .

The record winner of the tournament was Jacco Eltingh , who won the double competition three times with his partner Paul Haarhuis and won the single competition once.

In 2016, the ATP announced that the tournament was moving to Chengdu in the same year after the license holders asked for the tournament to be moved.
