The ATP tournament in Pune (from 2010 to 2017 Aircel Chennai Open ; previously Chennai Open ; since then Tata Open Maharashtra ) is an annual men's tennis tournament in Pune , India . The first event was held in New Delhi in 1996 . In the following season , he switched to the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai. In 2018 the tournament moved to Pune, about 1000 km away, where it will be held from now on.

In addition to the tournaments in Brisbane and Doha, it was one of the three events that opened the tennis year every year and, like these, was part of the ATP World Tour 250 . Due to the same surface and similar conditions as at the Australian Open , which took place two weeks later, the tournament was well suited to prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. With the ATP Cup being held for the first time at the beginning of 2020, the tournament was postponed to the beginning of February and will now take place directly after the Australian Open.
So far, no German player has been able to win the tournament. The record winner in the individual with four wins is the Swiss Stan Wawrinka , who won the 2011 and 2014-2016 events. Leander Paes won the tournament six times in doubles, five times alongside Mahesh Bhupathi .
