Wayne Hamilton Black (born November 14, 1973 in Harare ) is a former Zimbabwean tennis player .

Life

Black is the brother of Byron Black , who is also successful in doubles, and the tennis player Cara Black . He was able to win 18 titles in double competitions and reach 15 other finals during his career. Greatest successes were winning the US Open in 2001 and the Australian Open in 2005 with compatriot Kevin Ullyett . In 2000 he was able to reach a Grand Slam final at the Australian Open for the first time , but lost to Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach in five sets with Andrew Kratzmann . In mixed he was also able to win two Grand Slam titles alongside his sister Cara. The two were successful at the French Open in 2002 and at Wimbledon in 2004. At the French Open 2004 they only had to admit defeat in the final. Black achieved his highest single placement in the tennis world rankings with rank 69 at the end of March 1998. In doubles he was able to reach rank 4 at the end of January 2004. He ended his career following the 2006 Wimbledon tournament.

Black completed 49 singles and 28 doubles games for the Zimbabwean Davis Cup team between 1992 and 2005 . His greatest success with the team was taking part in the quarter-finals of the world group in 1998. In the 0-5 defeat against Italy , he gave up both singles and doubles at the side of his brother Byron.
