Byron Black (born October 6, 1969 in Salisbury , Rhodesia ) is a retired Zimbabwean tennis player . The doubles specialist won 22 tournaments in his career and was also active in the Davis Cup for his country.
Career
Black played his first tournament as a professional player in 1991. He celebrated his greatest successes as a single player in 1995 at the US Open and in 2000 at the Wimbledon tournament , when he made it to the quarterfinals. In April 1996 he reached 22nd place, the highest world rankings of his career.
Black was far more successful as a doubles player. In February 1994, the ATP led him as number 1 in the double world rankings. In the same year he won the French Open together with Jonathan Stark . In three other Grand Slam tournaments , Black moved into the final of the men's doubles: 1994 and 2001 at the Australian Open and 1996 at Wimbledon.
Black ended his active career in late 2002. In total, he earned prize money of 5,159,775 US dollars in his career.
