It was part of the ATP World Series , which was renamed the ATP International Series in 1998. For the past two years it has been called the Adidas Open de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées .

With Yannick Noah , Guy Forget , Arnaud Boetsch and Nicolas Escudé, four Frenchmen entered the list of winners at the tournament, which was held in Toulouse . Forget achieved three tournament victories, Boetsch and Noah each won twice. The only German winner in 1997 was Nicolas Kiefer , while Ricki Osterthun reached the final in 1987. The Swiss Heinz Günthardt won the title in 1983 and took part in the finals again the following year.
