Pavel Složil (born December 29, 1955 in Opava ) is a former Czechoslovakian tennis player .

Career

Pavel Složil achieved several successes in the individual, including two tournament wins in Nancy and Kitzbühel. In the world rankings, position 35 was his best position in November 1984. In doubles he was far more successful, where he was able to collect a total of 32 titles in his career and was in 29 other finals. In February 1985 he was listed as fourth in the double world rankings due to these successes. At the French Open 1984 he reached the final of the doubles competition, which he and his partner Tomáš Šmíd lost in five sets against Henri Leconte and Yannick Noah . Pavel Složil played his first Grand Slam final in 1978, also in Roland Garros . In the mixed competition, he and his partner Renáta Tomanová benefited from the injury-related abandonment of their competitors Virginia Ruzici and Patrice Dominguez with a score of 7: 6 for Pavel Složil and Tomanová.

Between 1978 and 1986 Pavel Složil played a total of eleven games for the Czechoslovak Davis Cup team . Both his single record with 7-2 wins and his double record with 4-2 wins are positive. He celebrated his greatest success in the Davis Cup in 1980 when he won the competition together with Ivan Lendl , Tomáš Šmíd and Jan Kodeš . He was used in the semi-finals and in the final of the European zone against France and Romania , as well as in the intercontinental semifinals against Argentina . In the final against Italy he was also in the squad, but was not used.

After his playing career, Pavel Složil was active as a coach. In the middle of 1986 he was hired as coach by Steffi Graf and remained so until 1991. During this time Graf won a total of ten Grand Slam titles and 51 other tournaments. From 1992 to 1999 he coached Jennifer Capriati , Anna Kurnikowa and Magdalena Maleewa, among others . Since 2002 he has worked as tennis director at the World Tennis Club in Naples , Florida .
