The Sydney Indoor Tournament (officially the last Australian Indoor Tennis Championships ) is a former men's tennis tournament that was held from 1973 to 1994 in Sydney , Australia . The game was played on an indoor hard court. From 1990 to 1994 the tournament was part of the ATP Championship Series , the predecessor of the ATP International Series Gold or the ATP World Tour 500 , on the newly established ATP Tour . The tournament was initially held in the Hordern Pavilion , from 1983 the venue changed to the Sydney Entertainment Center .
The record winner of the tournament is John McEnroe , who won the tournament four times (and this in a row); He is also the record holder in doubles (together with John Newcombe and John Fitzgerald ) with three titles.
