Peter McNamara (born July 5, 1955 in Melbourne , † July 20, 2019 in Sonthofen , Germany ) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

In his career he won five individual titles, including the 1981 International German Tennis Championships in Hamburg . In 1983 he reached his highest position on the world rankings with seventh place . In doubles he was far more successful; he won 19 tournaments, mostly with his compatriot Paul McNamee . The two won the doubles competition at Wimbledon in 1980 and 1982 and the Australian Open in 1979 .

McNamara was married. He had four children from two different marriages. He died on July 20, 2019 at the age of 64 from complications from prostate cancer .
