John Sadri (born September 19, 1956 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Sadri attended North Carolina State University between 1977 and 1978 and was voted twice for the All-American selection. In the individual competition of the National Collegiate Athletic Association he reached the final in 1978, which he lost to John McEnroe . During his career he was able to win two singles and two doubles titles on the ATP Tour . He was also in four other individual finals and seven double finals. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1980 with position 14 in singles and 1982 with position 16 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was the final at the Australian Open in 1978. After victories against local heroes Peter Doohan and Kim Warwick , among others , he met defending champion Guillermo Vilas in the final , to whom he was defeated in three sets. In 1984 he wrestled Vitas Gerulaitis in five sets in the round of 16 at Wimbledon and was defeated in the quarter-finals by eventual tournament winner John McEnroe . In the doubles competition he reached the final of the Australian Open two years in a row, 1981 with Hank Pfister and 1982 with Andy Andrews . He was also in 1979 with Tim Wilkison in the semi-finals of Wimbledon and 1983 with Andy Andrews in the semi-finals of the US Open .
