Ferdi Taygan (born December 5, 1956 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is a retired American tennis player and doubles specialist.
Career
Taygan is of Turkish - Belarusian descent. In the course of his career he won 19 double titles on the ATP Tour and reached an additional 19 finals. His double balance of the games won was 297: 180, the individual balance 74: 120. Taygan celebrated his greatest success in 1982 when he and his compatriot Sherwood Stewart won the double competition at the French Open . They defeated Hans Gildemeister and Belus Prajoux in three sets. He also reached the semi-finals of the doubles competitions in all other Grand Slam tournaments : in 1982 at the Australian Open , 1982 and 1984 at the Wimbledon Championships and in 1981 at the US Open . He was also at the US Open in 1982 and 1983 at the side of Barbara Potter in the final of the mixed competition, which Taygan and Potter lost both times. In the double world rankings he reached rank 8 on May 16, 1983, in the single world rankings he came to rank 59 on November 3, 1980.
