Horst Gauß (born July 19, 1937 in Essen ) is a German former amateur boxer, boxing manager, boxing trainer and non-fiction author .

Life

Horst Gauß spent his childhood in Dresden and Ostritz . Frankfurt am Main has been the center of his life since 1948. There he was co-founder of the boxing club CSC Frankfurt in 1964 . He only started boxing at the age of 27 and up to the age of 40 played 83 fights with varying success (51 wins) for his club. He led the club to three German team championships for amateur boxers (1985, 1988 and 1990). Horst Gauß has been a boxing trainer since 1966, and Willi Fischer also learned boxing from him. Gauß became known because the CSC Frankfurt rose to become the most successful amateur boxing club in Germany and the sport of amateur boxing recorded a rapid increase in the audience in the eighties. Immediately after the reunification, Gauß got involved with the former East Club SG Wismut Gera and with this club won the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1991. Gauß managed to keep the future world champion Markus Bayer in Gera. He played a key role in ensuring that, after reunification, the East and West German Bundesliga boxing clubs boxed together in one season and not, as intended by the boxing association, for geographical reasons, East and West German clubs boxed in 2 seasons.

Awards

For his commitment to amateur boxing and youth work, Horst Gauß received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 2000 .
