Vijay Amritraj (born December 14, 1953 in Madras ) is a Tamil Indian tennis player , film actor and entrepreneur.

Life

Vijay and his brother Anand were among the first Indians to take part in an international tennis tournament. In 1976 the brothers were semi-finalists in the Wimbledon men's doubles. He played at Wimbledon for 17 years in a row, brought India to the Davis Cup final in 1974 and 1987 , reached the Wimbledon quarter -finals in 1973 and 1981 and the US Open quarter -finals in 1973 and 1974 , was and was the best player in Asia for 14 years five times President of the ATP Players' Council. Vijay is the only Asian to have received the Baron Pierre de Coubertin Prize . He was also awarded the Padma Shri Order of the Government of India and the Los Angeles Golden Key .

After retiring from tennis in the 1980s, the 1.93 m tall and 74 kg light Vijay had a brief acting career, for example alongside Roger Moore in Octopussy and Star Trek IV: Back to the Present . He then worked as a sports commentator for Fox Sports in the USA and STAR Sports Asia (a News Corporation subsidiary).
