Victor Amaya (born July 2, 1954 in Denver , Colorado ) is a retired American tennis player .

Career

Amaya began his tennis career in 1973. As a single player, he won three tournaments. He was more successful in doubles alongside Hank Pfister . Together they won the French Open in 1980 in four sets against Brian Gottfried and Raúl Ramírez and reached the final of the US Open in 1982 , which was lost in five sets against Kevin Curren and Steve Denton . He won a total of six tournaments in doubles and in early 1983 he reached 16th place, his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings .
